(Singapore - 19 May 2011)

Leading insurer Prudential Assurance Company Singapore (Prudential Singapore) has donated $80,676 to Red Cross in aid of Japan. This effort has been doubled as the company’s regional office Prudential Corporation Asia (PCA) has matched this and amounts raised by Prudential offices across the region dollar for dollar, and donated the total sum of US$355,000 (28 million yen) to Save the Children in support of Japan.

Following the natural disasters in Japan, PCA activated the Prudential Caring Fund to enable employees and Financial Consultants across the region to easily make individual contributions towards relief efforts. Prudential Singapore identified the Red Cross as the Non-governmental Organisation that the Singapore office would pledge its contributions to, in aid of Japan.

“I am happy to see the generosity and spirit of giving that our staff and agency force have shown with this fund-raising effort. It is proof that Prudential Singapore is always able to rise to the occasion in times of need. We hope that the amount raised will do well to help the people in Japan recover from these unfortunate events,” said Mr Kevin Holmgren, Chief Executive Officer of Prudential Singapore.

Once the amount was totalled, Prudential Singapore, as with other offices in the region, reported the sum to PCA who matched it along with amounts raised by Prudential offices across the region by 100% and channelled the total sum of US$355,000 (28 million yen) to Save the Children, a Non-governmental Organisation that enforces children’s rights, provides relief and helps support children.

Mr Barry Stowe, Chief Executive of PCA, visited Japan last week to share the results of our fundraising efforts with the Prudential Life and Funds teams in Japan as well as to send them the good wishes from PCA colleagues region-wide. During his visit, he also took the opportunity to meet with Save the Children and present them with the cheque of 28 million yen that will go towards relief efforts in Japan.

Last year, Prudential Singapore also raised funds to help victims of the earthquake in Haiti while in 2009, the company organised fund-raising efforts in aid of those affected by the natural calamities that occurred in Indonesia and the Philippines. Since 2009, Prudential Singapore has also been involved in Boys’ Brigade’s Share-a-Gift programme that raises funds as well as reaches out to the needy in Singapore.
