- NTUC confers award on Prudential Singapore for significant contributions towards the Labour Movement
Singapore, 5 May 2014 – Prudential Assurance Company Singapore (Pte) Limited (Prudential Singapore) was conferred the Plaque of Commendation (Gold) Award by the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), becoming the first insurance company to receive the commendation.
Nominated by the NTUC with the support of Unions, the Plaque of Commendation (Gold) Award is presented to companies that have made significant and consistent contributions towards promoting good industrial relations, ensuring workers’ welfare and workfare, and supporting NTUC’s programmes.
Prudential Singapore CEO Tomas Urbanec accepted the award during the 2014 May Day dinner on 29 April 2014, where a total of 105 awards in 13 different categories were given out.
Commenting on the award, Mr Urbanec said: “Prudential Singapore is honoured to be the first insurance company to receive this vote of confidence from NTUC. This award reinforces our commitment to strengthening our workforce through the support of key Labour Movement initiatives. We will continue to take a partnership approach towards maintaining harmonious relations with our Union as our workforce continues to grow in size and productivity.”
Gan Peck Yeow, Executive Vice President & Chief Human Resources Officer, added, “We are humbled by this accolade from NTUC. It represents a strong endorsement of Prudential’s commitment in engaging and partnering the Union throughout the years. In 2009, Prudential was a recipient of the May Day Model Partnership Award. The award, also handed out by NTUC, recognizes model workers, companies and unions for their contributions to the transformation of Singapore’s economy and workforce through inclusive growth and increased productivity strategies.
