Singapore, 5 June 2015 – Prudential Assurance Company Singapore (Pte) Limited will celebrate SG50 with up to 7,000 clients and guests at a mega financial learning event, a $50,000 investment challenge for young adults to pit their skills in savings and investing, and a charity bike ride to raise funds to build a learning centre.

Prudential’s ‘Life Matters’ day kicks off on 4 July at the Singapore Expo and it will feature games, investment talks, food, performance and other activities to promote financial learning in a fun and engaging manner.

For young adults, Prudential has ‘The Steward,’ an online challenge and interactive game targeted at those between 17 and 28 years old. Participants get together in teams of two and are given a $5,000 virtual fund to manage. They will be tested on their skills in financial planning and money management over three weeks from 15 June, with the top 20 teams moving into the second round involving a thrilling chase with opponents. The final four teams compete on 4 July for the grand prize of $20,000. (More details can be found at https://www.thesteward.sg/). The second prize will be $10,000, third and fourth prizes will be $5,000 each and $10,000 will be given out in consolation prizes.

Tomas Urbanec, Chief Executive Officer of Prudential Singapore, said: “Having operated in Singapore for 84 years, we have grown and evolved together with the country. We are grateful to the nation and our customers for their continued support. On the occasion of the Republic’s 50th year of independence, we felt that promoting life skills that enable Singaporeans to live financially better lives would be relevant and meaningful.

“A recent study has shown a decline in financial literacy among Singaporeans, some of whom are struggling to manage their budget. We hope our contribution to the SG50 celebrations will have a long-lasting and positive impact on society. We also hope that worthy initiatives like Prudential Charity Ride can help improve the learning opportunities for children and youths from disadvantaged backgrounds.”

Other events organised for July 4 include “World of Cha Ching” which is targeted at children aged 9 to 12. Based on the financial literacy program developed and funded by the Prudence Foundation, in partnership with Turner Network, Cha Ching teaches the fundamentals of money smart habits around the four financial concepts of “Earn, Save, Spend and Donate”. For adults, there will be a series of specialist talks on topics such as investments, health and wellness, and lifestyle investments. Local celebrities Mark Lee, Henry Thia, and FLY entertainment artistes Irene Ang, Joshua Tan, Noah Yap and Maxi Lim will also be performing at the event.

As part of Prudential Singapore’s SG50 celebrations, the company is also the title sponsor of Prudential Charity Ride. Organised by not-for-profit society Bike Aid and Prudence (Prudential Agency Leaders Guild), the event supports charitable organisation, Sunlove Home, to raise funds to build a 2000 square-foot study corner at Block 30 in Chai Chee for children. This learning corner aims to provide school-going children and youths from disadvantaged backgrounds with a conducive learning environment, as well as opportunities to help enhance their skills and knowledge through courses or classes organised by relevant organisations.

More than 200 cyclists will flag off on 21 June at 7.30am to ride around the island in two routes – a 50km route from Orchid Country Club in Yishun to Aranda Country Club in Pasir Ris and a 100km route from Orchid Country Club to Marina Barrage, through the business district and back to Orchid Country Club. The cyclists and their supporters will be pledging donations to support the worthy cause.
