Prudential extends support to individuals who may be hospitalised for side effects arising from COVID-19 vaccinations

  • Complimentary PRUSafe COVIDCover for side effects post-COVID-19 vaccination comprising:
    • S$100 daily hospitalisation cash allowance for up to 14 days for 100,000 Singapore residents1
  • Extension of hospitalisation coverage to include side effects post-COVID-19 vaccination for PRUShield customers and Prudential’s corporate and SME customers

Singapore, 25 January 2021 – Prudential Singapore (“Prudential”) is providing support to individuals who may be hospitalised for side effects resulting from COVID-19 vaccinations with its complimentary PRUSafe COVIDCover and extension of coverage for its medical plans.

PRUSafe COVIDCover on Pulse by Prudential: 26 January to 31 July 2021

Launching on 26 January 2021, PRUSafe COVIDCover will be made available to 100,000 Singapore residents including non-Prudential customers. The plan provides a cash allowance of S$100 per day of hospitalisation2 for up to 14 days, should an individual be hospitalised within 7 days of receiving each COVID-19 vaccination dosage3.

PRUSafe COVIDCover is available on Prudential’s digital health and wellness app, Pulse by Prudential (“Pulse”), from 26 January 2021 to 31 July 2021. The plan is effective from 26 January 2021 or date of registration, whichever is later, and ends on 31 January 2022.

PRUSafe COVIDCover is an extension of the life insurer’s PRUcare package4 , which aims to support individuals and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prudential Singapore’s CEO Dennis Tan said it is important that the company responds swiftly to the needs of its customers and Singapore residents as the nation progresses with its COVID-19 vaccination strategy.

“As COVID-19 vaccinations become available to Singapore residents, we want to provide support for our customers and the wider community. With more people vaccinated and protected against COVID-19, we look forward to community and economic activities in Singapore returning to normal,” said Mr Tan.

To sign up for PRUSafe COVIDCover, individuals must be aged 18 and above. Users do not need to pay any subscription fee when they download the Pulse by Prudential app via the Apple App Store or Android Play Store. They can then visit PRUShoppe, the app’s e-store, to register.

Pulse was launched in April last year as part of the life insurer’s region-wide strategy to make healthcare more affordable and accessible. The artificial intelligence (AI)-powered mobile app currently provides Singapore residents with round-the-clock access to healthcare services and real-time health information.

Prudential’s PRUShield, Corporate and SME Customers: Hospitalisation coverage extended to include side effects of COVID-19 vaccinations

From 13 January 2021, new and existing customers of Prudential’s Integrated Shield Plan (IP), PRUShield, are automatically covered should they be hospitalised for side effects resulting from the COVID-19 vaccinations, with no change in premiums. The same applies to employees of Prudential’s corporate and SME customers under Group Hospital & Surgical plans.

In addition, they will also be entitled to the benefits of PRUSafe COVIDCover if they are the first 100,000 to sign up via Pulse.

Complimentary medical insurance for new work pass employees diagnosed with COVID-19 within 14 days of their arrival in Singapore

From 1 January 2021, Prudential's new and existing corporate and SME customers with Group Health & Surgical plans will receive complimentary medical insurance of up to S$15,000 for their new work pass employees5 should they be diagnosed with COVID-19 within 14 days of their arrival in Singapore. There will be no change to premiums.

Notes:

  • Day of hospitalisation means a period of 24 hours of hospitalisation. The first day of hospitalisation starts at the time of admission to the hospital and each subsequent day of hospitalisation starts 24 hours after the end of the previous day of hospitalisation. The day of discharge is considered as a day of hospitalisation if the time of discharge of the life assured from the hospital is more than 12 hours from the later of
    • the time of admission to the hospital; or
    • the end of the previous day of hospitalisation.

    Hospitalisation excludes short stay ward, Accident & Emergency ward and day surgery.

  • The COVID-19 vaccination needs to be authorised by the Singapore Health Sciences Authority and administered on the recommendation of a Registered Medical Practitioner. The side effects of COVID-19 vaccinations must also be diagnosed in Singapore by a Registered Medical Practitioner and the life assured has to be hospitalised in Singapore on the recommendation of a Registered Medical Practitioner. A Registered Medical Practitioner is any person properly qualified with a degree in western medicine to practise medicine and is licensed by the Singapore Medical Council to practise medicine within the scope of his licensing and training. This cannot be you, the life assured or a family member of either.
