What is claims-based pricing?

Claims based pricing is a fairer pricing approach for our policyholders to save on premiums without compromising on medical care.

It is applicable for PRUExtra Premier CoPay, PRUExtra Preferred CoPay, and PRUExtra Premier# customers only.

How does it work?

With claims-based pricing, you will start off at the Standard Level Premium, the lowest premium level of your age band. You also enjoy the PRUWell Reward, a 20% savings on your Standard Level Premium when your policy is incepted with no exclusions. Each year, your premium level will be determined by any previous claims you made during the review period. As long as you stay healthy, with no claims made on your supplementary plan, you will continue to enjoy the PRUWell Reward on your Standard Level Premium at your next policy renewal.

Panel Providers include:

  1. All Private Registered Medical Practitioners/Specialists, Private Hospitals and Private Treatment Centres listed on the PRUPanel Connect website
  2. All Restructured Hospitals and Treatment Centres

Note: PRUPanel Connect value-added services are applicable for all under (1) and a selected number of Restructured Hospitals and Medical Practitioners/Specialists under (2), all of which are listed on the PRUPanel Connect website.

Non-panel Providers are Private Hospitals and private medical institutions listed under Non-panel on our website. They also include non-participating private specialists operating in Private Hospitals listed under Panel Providers. We reserve the right to change this Panel or Non-panel list from time to time.


Should there be occurrences of Private Hospitals and Restructured Hospital claims within the same review period, only the claims under Private Hospitals will be added together to calculate the premium level. If there is a claim from a Private Hospital or private medical institution that is not under our Panel Providers, and it is made within the same review period as a Panel Provider, the premium level will be based on the Private Hospital or private medical institution that is not under our Panel Providers’ premium level to determine the movement on premium level at policy renewal.

Keeping your premiums affordable in the long-run

Visit a PRUPanel Connect specialist

You can now take advantage of PRUPanel Connect which gives you access to participating specialists within our panel hospitals. With claims-based pricing, when you make a claim with a participating PRUPanel Connect specialist, you will only move up 1 level compared to up to 2 or 4 levels with other private hospitals or medical institutions. Using a PRUPanel Connect specialist can therefore help keep your premiums more affordable.

Claim from other insurance plans

By reducing the claim amount made against your PRUShield policy, you can better manage future premium increments. One way to do this is to recover the cost of your medical claims from other insurance plans available to you, such as your company’s group insurance employee benefits plan. In this manner, you will reduce the claim amount made against your PRUShield policy and help us keep your premiums more affordable in the long term.

Customers impacted by claims based pricing (CBP) will also benefit by moving down one premium level upon policy renewal if they managed to recover a minimum amount of $1,000 successfully.
